Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Commission?
Commissioning is the process of hiring an artist to create stained glass artwork, based on your request. There are many reasons why people commission stained glass art. Sometimes, the piece they really like is too large or too expensive. In that case, a client is likely to request a smaller or more affordable piece or even shop around as prices vary from area to area.
How does it work? (Easy as 1, 2, 3)
- You contract with SCOART GLASS with a loose description of everything we verbally agreed upon (the size, colors, materials, subject matter, and other details of the composition). We will then send you a commission quote to review and agree to.
- We will request a 50:50 payment structure, requiring you to pay 50% upfront and the rest when the stained glass piece is finished. Paying in advance is important, as it allows us to purchase materials, and cover the initial expenses. We charge design fee to create a stained glass pattern upon quote agreement.
- We complete the stained glass artwork, notify you when completed, and upon final payment we ship it to your home. We do request a picture of the displayed piece for our portfolio.
What if I don't like the piece when I receive it?
Returns are rare and not accepted on commission artwork. SCOART GLASS involves you in creating the initial design and choosing the glass colors because we want you to be happy with your commissioned piece.
What if I have a picture or pattern I like, can we use it?
In most cases, yes we can use it. We will need to turn the image into a stained glass pattern (design fee applies). If it is a pattern you purchased, we will credit the artist for the design and SCOART Glass for the craftmanship and creating the design in the glass medium.
